As a mum, finding ‘me time’ can be damn near impossible. With the constant housework, running the kids to school and swimming lessons and helping with homework, your to do list can seem endless and me time is usually at the bottom of that list.
Even though, as parents, we often don’t make time for ourselves, it is so important. Even a little bit of ‘me time’ can be the difference between being the cranky, yelly mum and the calm, patient mum. The shortest of breaks can be a breath of fresh air and can help you get through your day.
I admit, a few hours of peace and quiet in a beautiful clean home sounds amazing, it’s just not super realistic. So I take my me time in short little breaks. It’s so much easier to find. 5-10 minutes a day than it is to find a solid 2 hours a week. Some things I enjoy are making a cuppa and sitting outside to enjoy the weather (gosh that makes me sounds old! but i enjoy it) or to read a chapter of a book while the kids are occupied, listen to some old music or turn the netflicks on. If I’ve had a really rough day, I finish the days chores, and after the kids are in bed, I dream about running a hot bath since my new home doesn’t have one yet haha and let the stress of the day just melt away. Ohh i miss having a bath!
It’s these small things that help me through the day. These little bits of me time make me a happier, healthier and calmer mum which gives me the ability to better connect with my kids. It can be easy to put yourself at the bottom of the list and forget to take time for yourself but if you make the conscious effort each day, you will enjoy the often thankless task of parenting a little bit more. Just remember you are worth so much, so take some time and enjoy your moments.
How do you fit your ‘me time’ in?
