Self love is something I feel very strongly about.
Self love is something I make the effort to implement into my life every day, regardless of how busy I am. Some days I’m able to take a relaxing bath for half an hour, and other days it’s as simple as making myself a cup of tea that I drink warm!
Honestly, I think everything starts with self-love. If you’re new to taking some time to focus on yourself it can sometimes make us feel selfish or even make us feel guilty for taking this time for ourselves. But it shouldn’t! we all deserve some time to focus on ourselves and recharge our body, mind, and spirit.
Taking time for self-love doesn’t mean everything is all about me, me, me. It’s not a vain thing at all! It’s about appreciating yourself, accepting who you are and taking responsibility for your own well-being and happiness. Take some time to focus on, and improve the areas in your life that don’t make you happy.
Throughout my journey, I’ve learned so much about myself. I’ve learned to love myself by changing my lifestyle, daily activities, food choices and surrounding myself with positive and inspiring people. This hasn’t just been a weight loss journey for me. I was stuck in a miserable place and I knew I was the only one that could get me out of it.
Once I started looking after my body like it was my best friend, nurturing it with nutritious foods, exercising, resting and taking time out for me. I was able to see the power of self-love because both my body and my mind were running at 100% instead of 10%.
By cherishing your body by nourishing it and appreciating it, it will provide for you everything you need to stay happy and healthy. But don’t stress, Self- love is also about allowing yourself to make mistakes without punishing yourself, but learning to grow and move forwards.
Appreciate who you are, we are all different. We all have different goals, struggles, achievements, talents and thank goodness for that! Because this life would be a very boring place if we were all the same. I know it’s all good and well for me to say this, but I wanted to share with you my top 10 tips for allowing self-love into your everyday life.
Step 1: Write down your intentions for the day
This is a great way to start your day off positively and a very important part of my morning. You might be thinking what exactly is a self-love intention?
Well, an intention is a goal to do something, to make an effort to complete a certain task. So a self-love intention is to complete at least one act of self-love per day. That may be something like doing at least 10 minutes of exercise, or even taking the time to go and get a massage. Whatever self-love looks like to you, make an intention at the beginning of every day to implement it into your routine. I have found some amazing daily intention cards at Project Goddess which have helped me a lot!
Step 2: Nourish your body with wholesome foods
Wholesome foods are not only good for keeping your body active and alert. But they’re also proven to improve your focus. When we eat unhealthy foods, not only are we not properly fueling our bodies, our minds also suffer. This is when we start to lose sight of what’s really important and we struggle to stay focused. We have no energy to pick ourselves up so we tend to reach for the sugar to give ourselves a quick boost. It’s a hard cycle to break, but once you make an effort to fuel your body instead of just feeding it, you’re going to notice a humongous change!
Step 3. Move your body
Even 10 minutes of light stretching is enough to get those endorphins flowing. I know that life is hectic, and we don’t always have time for a full gym session, but by making the effort to move your body you’re giving yourself the best chance of happiness throughout the day!
Step 4: Unplug
Schedule in an hour at least a day to unplug from your phone or technology and focus on you. Whether that’s when you exercise, spend time playing with your kids or relaxing in a bath, make sure you ground yourself and remove all distracting sources. This will allow you to escape the world for a while and truly focus on the things important to you.
Step 5: Surround yourself with people who love and encourage you
Having a support system is one of the best sources of self-love. Knowing that you’re supported and loved allows you to branch out and permit yourself to follow your dreams. It also means that when you’re having a bad day, and you will, you have someone to reach out to who will love and support you no matter what. And the tables can turn too, you’re also able to be there for that person when you need to as well.
Step 6: Listen To Music
There isn’t much that listening to music can’t fix. Throwing on your favourite song is one of the most popular forms of self-love that I have come across. And not many people realise that it’s a form of self-love! I know that days where I’ve felt really low, turning my favourite song on at full blast has been all I need to pick myself up again!
Step 7: Get Out In Nature
Standing barefoot on the grass or watering flowers is one of my favourite forms of self-love. There’s nothing quite as satisfying as being able to wiggle your toes in the grass and allow yourself to become grounded again, or watching a beautiful flower grow because you’ve taken the time to water it. Nature knows what it needs instinctively, and by immersing ourselves in it we allow ourselves to enjoy just being.
Step 8: Laugh
Read a funny blog. Watch your favourite comedy or phone that friend who can make you laugh no matter what. Having a good laugh is a highly underrated form of self-love. It’s no joke when they say ‘laughter is the best medicine’. And when it comes to self-love it allows you to raise your vibration really high very quickly. And laughter is contagious, so not only are you boosting your own vibe, you’ll be boosting the vibe of those around you!
Step 9: Treat Yourself
Never feel guilty for buying yourself something nice! When it comes to self-love it’s important to understand that treats are allowed! Whether it’s your favourite food, some sexy lingerie or booking a holiday, think about what will truly make you happy and indulge! There is no right or wrong answer when it comes to this. Just allow yourself to think of your needs and only your needs for a time. And treat yourself to something that will bring a smile to your face!
Step 10: Get A Good Night’s Sleep
Sleep is so important when it comes to self-love. If you’re tired then it throws off your entire day. And you feel like you’re working twice as hard to push through. While I know it’s not realistic for everyone to get the recommended eight hours of sleep a night (hello fellow mums!), try and get a night of restful sleep when you can.
Whether that’s by listening to meditation before you go to sleep or diffusing some essential oils next to your bed. Make sure that you’re getting the best rest you can so you can wake up feeling refreshed.
Self-love can be implemented into your day incredibly easy when you make it a priority. And, as someone who has gone from a dark place, to loving my life and the people in it. I can vouch for this when I say that loving yourself can truly turn your life around!
