Why do you need to wash your fruits and vegetables?
One of our favourite things to do as a family on the weekend is to head out to The Standard Market to get some fresh fruit and veg. I just love walking in and seeing all colorful rows of wholesome fruit and vegetables. It’s like looking at a delicious rainbow.
However, as fresh and tasty as the produce looks in any store they still need a good clean.
With so many people touching, picking and handling the fruit and veg in-store and on the way to the store, I feel a lot better washing my fruit and veg when I get home so I know it’s clean before my family consumes it. Plus washing our fruit and veg is even more important right now with the current situation the world is dealing with.
But there is also another reason I like to wash our fruit and veg. The produce may be contaminated by pesticides, herbicides, animals or bad hygiene.
How to wash fruits and vegetables properly
- Fill a sink or large bowl with 3 parts filtered water and 1 part vinegar
- Soak the fruit and vegetables you would like to clean in the mixture for 15-20mins
- Make sure you rinse the fruit and vegetables with water after soaking
- Towel dry and store away properly
Produce can harbor all sorts of things like dirt, bugs, eggs, bad hygiene, pesticides etc. I feel so much better knowing my produce is a lot cleaner after giving it a good soak and clean.
Give this natural produce wash a try! It’s quick and easy and you’ll feel better for it!
