Life is about balance

Life is about balance. 

Sometimes juggling everything we need in life can be damn near impossible. With work, children, housework, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and trying to maintain our social life, it’s easy to feel more than slightly overwhelmed. I must admit that I am not always the best at maintaining a balanced lifestyle, but I am learning. 

I have four main habits that help me maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle. 

Firstly, I organise. I have lists everywhere! I write a list for everything. Going to the beach, I write a list. Going on a picnic, that’s a list. Going for a night out, time for a list. Writing lists helps me figure out the things I need to do and gives me a chance to prioritise them. Instead of trying to keep everything in my head and hoping that I don’t forget, I have them written down. It has helped me more than I can even say. 

Secondly, I have a calendar. It is a very basic calendar. But it has everything on it. School dates, social outings, bills that need to be paid, absolutely everything. I have it hung up in my kitchen and look at it every morning when I get up. This sets me up for the day and I know what needs to be done and who needs to be where. 

I also carry a planner with me. In this planner I have detailed plans for each day, I have a basic to do list and I also put any bills in that need to be paid. I check it through the day and cross out each task as I finish it. Not only do I feel a sense of achievement when everything is crossed off, but I never (or at least very rarely) forget to do what I need to do. 

Finally, at the end of the day, I go through my list, my planner and my calendar and make sure it’s all done. 

All these things help me keep my life in order and I have found that it saves me time and allows me to fit in a workout or a coffee with friends more regularly. I am able to put these into my day. It can be so difficult to keep everything balanced, but once you find a way that works for you, you will love the way your life just flows (most of the time).
